What does it mean to be an Intellectual Olympian?
I believe the next great generation of leaders, engineers and creators of all shades will be people who possess undeniable curiosity for learning. These people are avid readers, critical thinkers who question the status quo, and the developers of their own insightful additions to meaningful conversations.
As the world becomes more and more automated, as technology improves, and as our ability to think becomes increasingly prevalent, the need to improve our way of thinking will also become a must.
Like Olympic Athletes, knowledge workers need to maintain balance to keep their edge. The best athletes in the world don’t over-train. They push themselves to the limit, then they take recovery time so their bodies can recover and grow stronger. I strive to create a work environment optimized for Olympic knowledge workers, where people push the limits of the possible, working incredibly hard together with amazing teams… followed by time to unplug and recover. For example, we don’t track vacation time – and I find I have to spend more time pushing people to take the time off than to work harder.
Burnouts are less creative. They make mistakes, and they can’t innovate on par with the best in the world. If you are interested in finding a home where you get to work with some of the smartest, most motivated people in the world on an amazing mission — and a place where we respect your individuality and we expect you to take time away from work to continue to learn and grow, reach out and visit Axon.com/careers.
